Site Name: USA - Pennsylvania - Upper Providence Posted Date: Oct 29 2021 We are recruiting an experienced and highly motivated scientist with expertise in biochemistry/enzymology to join the department of Screening, Profiling & Mechanistic Biology (SPMB) at GSK's research facility in Collegeville, Pennsylvania. The primary responsibility of the SPMB department is to deliver high quality, biologically relevant pre-clinical leads for all GSK therapeutic areas, by employing a combination of scientific tools and methodologies, including but not limited to activity and binding assay development, high-throughput screening, compound profiling for SAR, and mechanism of action studies. The candidate will provide enzymology support to GSK Research Unit programs from target selection through declaration of a clinical candidate. S/he will characterize novel enzymes, contribute to hit identification strategies, design and develop assays for hit identification, execute and triage small molecule discovery campaigns, and perform mechanism-of-action studies on qualified hits. The candidate will provide enzyme and small molecule mechanistic data and insight as part of a project team. S/he will collaborate in a highly multidisciplinary/matrix environment for the progression of drug discovery projects. The successful candidate is expected to drive and lead project strategy and direction in collaboration with Research Units and Chemistry project leaders, as well as represent SPMB and the target team at internal and external meetings. Qualifications: We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: A Ph.D. degree, or Master's degree with at least 5 of years of experience, in biochemistry, enzymology, biophysics, chemistry, or a related field is required Extensive laboratory experience and strong theoretical background are required in one or more of the following fields: biochemical assay development, mechanistic characterization of enzymes and their ligands, protein biochemistry, biophysics, and chemical biology Ability to formulate and clearly articulate research plans Track record of strategic scientific leadership Influences and leads experimental design to solve complex problems; for example, applying biochemistry and enzymology expertise to: identify fit for purpose protein reagent novel assay design qualify and characterize hits from screening campaigns Self-directed learning ability and drive for scientific excellence Strong record of peer-reviewed publications is required Why GSK?
