Job Summary Savannah State University is seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic and dynamic leader to join its International Education Center as Director of the English Language Institute (ELI). This position will provide leadership in all aspects of planning and operations for the program. The director will act as a Designated School Official (DSO) to ensure students comply with the non-immigrant regulations set by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Responsibilities Reporting to the Director of International Education, the Director/Instructor of the English Language Institute hires and develops quality English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Instructors; supervises, monitors, and evaluates all ESOL personnel; develops and maintains a business plan and creates marketing and promotional materials for the ELI. The Director is responsible for developing the global friendships program, and seeking partnership opportunities with local enterprises. The Director participates in development and implementation of comprehensive internationalization of the Institute and serves as a teacher or substitute teach for ESOL classes, advises and registers ESOL students for program classes as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Educational

Act as a teacher for ESOL classes, as needed Advise and register ESOL students for program courses Managerial/Supervisory

Hire and develop quality ESOL instructors Supervise, mentor, and evaluate all ESOL personnelManage course assessments and student learning outcome evaluations for accreditation Administrative

Create marketing and promotional materials for the ELI, Participate in recruitment and enrollment efforts for the ELI Create ELI calendar and course schedules and coordinate scheduling of classrooms Develop and supervise ELI student cultural excursion program Develop and nurture global friendship programs Develop and maintain a business plan for the ELI Represent the ELI to other campus constituencies Coordinate with all College offices affecting international students to ensure quality and constructive student experience Act as an advocate and counselor for ESOL students and provide guidance related to non-immigrant, cultural assimilation, and campus-wide issues Seek partnership opportunities with local enterprises interested in ESOL services Participate as crucial member of the International Education Center's team in development and implementation of comprehensive internationalization of institution Serve the institution on committees as requested Conduct instructor and staff meetings on a regular basis as neededOther duties as assigned Required Qualifications
Master's degree with minimum of graduate level TESOL Certification, or degree in Linguistics or teaching a foreign language. A minimum of two years of teaching full time, including experience developing TESOL curriculum and teaching material Goal-oriented leader with ability to act responsibly and entrepreneurially in initiating action plans for change and improvement Professional knowledge of ESOL approaches and methodologies, including assessment techniques, test/measurement principles, and instructional material design and development Strong verbal and written communication skills Comfortable and enthusiastic in a wide range of cultural groups and cross-cultural relationships Effective time management skills Ability to use MicroSoft Office products Ability to manage a budget and keep accurate records Ability to communicate clearly in English to non-native speakers A citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States (in order to be a Designated School Official - DSO) Hold a valid driver's license Preferred Qualifications
Experience learning a foreign language is a plus Prefer at least two years management experience, experience supervising and evaluating teaching staff a plus Experience with Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and non-immigrant regulations a plus Apply Before Date Position will remain open until filled.
