Position Description:RESEARCH SCIENTIST/LABORATORY MANAGER-YAFFE LAB
, Koch Institute (KI) for Integrative Cancer Research , to oversee daily operations of an academic research laboratory, actively participate in the training of postdoctoral fellows/graduate students/undergraduates/technicians, and perform primary research as needed to explore new ideas or help bring ongoing projects to publication. Laboratory management will include overseeing the maintenance of equipment/inventory, research space, and daily budget. Responsibilities include overseeing use of laboratory funds, supply inventory, and technical staff activities; performing primary bench research to explore new ideas during the inception phase and/or assisting with completing ongoing research projects in preparation for publication; maintaining and organizing reagents/supplies database; assisting with planning, organizing, and coordinating grant submissions, project reports, talks/presentations, and lab-wide activities; overseeing research compliance activities; serving as EHS safety officer and liaison to the Committee on Animal Care and Division of Comparative Medicine; financial management of research grant applications; recruiting and hiring fellows/technicians/graduate students/summer students/interns; assisting with personnel performance reviews, salary distribution on grants, appointment renewals, and promotions; managing lab space allocation and inventory; coordinating equipment repairs; and assisting with material transfer agreements, tangible property submissions and patents, and requests for reagents/mice/cells.
Position Requirements: REQUIRED : master's/Ph.D. in related scientific field; five years' experience working in a large research laboratory; strong technical/scientific writing, interpersonal, verbal communication, presentation, time-management, planning, problem-solving, and organizational skills; experience with research/grant proposal development, writing, and editing; budget management, supervisory, and project management experience; ability to work as part of a diverse team and to promote collaboration and cooperation among teams; and proficiency with Microsoft Office, database software, and Adobe products.
