The Department of Counseling and Learning Sciences in the College of Education and Human Services at West Virginia University ( invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor position in Clinical Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling (CRMHC) beginning January 1, 2022. The department values intellectual diversity and demonstrated ability to work with diverse students and colleagues.

The CRMHC program is ranked 37th by the US News and World Report, and is delivered entirely online. The successful candidate will teach courses in the CRMHC program. In addition, the candidate will support recruitment and retention efforts, as well as undertake service activities in the CRMHC program, the CLS department, and areas of major concern for the state of West Virginia and/or the region. Through its ongoing Academic Transformation process, WVU is creating a new College focusing on applied human sciences, through the merger of the College of Education and Human Services and the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences. The new College will be in place on July 1, 2022.

Visiting faculty appointments at WVU are full-time, non-tenure track, term appointments. This position includes an appointment for three semesters (i.e., Spring 2022, Fall 2022, Spring 2023) and has been approved for remote or hybrid employment.

This position allows for flexibility in work location, including potential hybrid or remote work / work from home options.

Travel to the WVU Campus may need to occur based on organizational needs throughout the year.

The successful applicant must:
  • Hold a doctoral degree from a CACREP accredited counselor education program.
  • Demonstrate the potential for excellent teaching.
  • Meet the qualifications set forth by CACREP for a dual specialization in clinical rehabilitation counseling and clinical mental health counseling.
  • Actively identify with the counseling profession through sustained memberships in counseling organizations; the maintenance of certifications and/or licenses pertinent to their counseling specialty area; and, sustained professional development and renewal activities related to counseling, professional service and advocacy in counseling, and research and scholarly activity in counseling.
