The Department of History at West Virginia University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in Modern European History to begin August 2022. This is a nine-month, full-time position with full benefits. We seek candidates with research and teaching capabilities in Twentieth-Century European history, excluding Britain and Russia/Soviet Union, who can also contribute to one or more of the department's four thematic strengths: gender and kinship, imperial and post-colonial societies, labor and political economy, and war and society.

The normal teaching load for research productive faculty in History is two courses per semester. The successful candidate will be expected to teach the introductory survey in European History since 1600, as well as more specialized upper level undergraduate courses and graduate seminars in Modern European history.

WVU is a R1 research land grant university located within 90 minutes of Pittsburgh and 3.5 hours from the Washington/Baltimore area. Morgantown has been recognized as one of the most livable small cities in the U.S. There are extensive recreational opportunities, excellent public schools, and a supportive University environment in which to develop a visible and productive career. The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in History or a closely related field at the time of appointment, and must demonstrate an active research agenda, the potential for excellent teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and the potential to secure external funding in support of their research.
