We are currently searching for a Science Writer to provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). The primary objective is to provide services and deliverables through performance of technical writing support services. This opportunity is full-time, and it is on site in Bethesda, MD.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Drawing from a strong scientific background and general understanding of various biological sciences, the contractor shall draft and review appointment, advertisement outcome, exceptional pay increase, and other personnel action memos and salary benchmark justifications in support of scientific personnel appointments, conversions, and pay adjustments specifically Title 42 and Title 38 Hiring Authority.
  • Develop scientific and technical materials regarding VRCs research programs and activities as well as scientific accomplishments.

  • Develop specialized materials covering highly complex subject matter areas for various purposes and audiences.
  • Collaborate with NIH scientific and administrative leadership on policy interpretation and implementation.
  • Draft and review award nominations.
  • Provide advice to VRC administrative and communications staff on HHS, NIH, and NIAID policies related to scientific personnel actions and hiring authorities.
  • Perform business analyses of personnel actions using tracking tools and determine next steps.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Miscellaneous Biology
  • At least 5 years of experience


Preferred qualifications:
  • Demonstrated strong writing, editing and proofreading skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate basic scientific ideas to the general public.
  • Demonstrated experience in writing scientific manuscripts and reviews.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel.
