We are looking for a passionate and driven associate scientist to join the assay development group at a well-funded, long-term multi-venture backed Life Sciences start-up company. The scientist will be involved in developing assays for our new NGS technologies, specifically in surface kinetics, reagent formulations, photophysics, and DNA-protein associations. Ideal candidates will have hands-on lab experience in wet biochemistry or molecular biology and prepare reagents to do measurements on microscopes, plate readers, fluidic systems. Moreover, they should have good organizational skills, display a can-do attitude and be flexible about their activities. Expect to be part of a highly energetic and collaborative team.

Essential Functions and Responsbilities
  • Support the optimization of workflow and reagents for novel NGS workflows
  • Able to perform biophysics/biochemistry experiments
  • Implement and maintain process workflows and good work practices
  • Ability to follow SOP to carry out biochemical assays
  • Write and version SOPs and work instructions
  • Collaborate closely with R&D teams and ops/manufacturing teams as products evolve
  • Prioritize, design, plan and perform experiments
  • Analyze data, record, and present results
  • Use of fluidic systems, scopes, plate readers, UV-Vis, PCR machines

Education and Experience
  • B.S. or M.S. degree in genetics, biochemistry, biophysics, molecular biology, bioengineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 2 - 4 years in a related industry such as genetics, genomics, molecular diagnostics, and NGS or equivalent field of study (an equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered. Understanding of nucleic acid-protein by using UV-vis, Microscope imaging, Plate readers, fluorescent binding, and activity assays
  • Experience in assay and reagent optimization
  • Experience in biophysical/biochemistry assays development

Required Skills/Abilities
  • Comfortable troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of microfluidics, photo physics. Comfortable working with device prototypes
  • Familiar with data analysis tools like JMP, Matlab, Python or others
  • Knowledge of product development cycle
  • Well organized and a good communicator
  • Good team player
  • Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Persistent and ambitious
  • Ability to multi-task, flexible working in fast-paced research environment
