Postdoctoral Position on Host-Microbe Interactions
A postdoctoral position is available on a project that is a joint collaboration between the Siryaporn and Gross labs, at the University of California, Irvine. This project is supported by a new NIH grant and seeks to use a multi-disciplinary approach to study a novel innate-immune paradigm that combines histones and antimicrobial peptides/agents to target bacterial membranes and bacterial replication. Studies at the intersection of host and microbe biology will focus on the innate immune response, its effect on bacterial physiology, and the bacterial response.
We are seeking a highly motivated, independent, and career-oriented candidate with research expertise in immunology, cell biology, bacteriology, systems biology, biophysics, or quantitative image analysis. Ideal candidates would have some of the skills/approaches listed above, and be comfortable with learning others, and working as part of a cross-disciplinary team. Good written and oral communication skills are essential, along with excellent project management skills. A track record of first author publication(s) is required, along with a passion for science.
The salary and benefits will follow the NIH standard. After hiring, postdocs will be encouraged to apply to fellowships offered by private foundations and the NIH. Irvine is located on the Southern California coast, mid-way between Los Angeles and San Diego.
