Overview:

Norvoc Bioscience, Inc. is seeking a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist. We are looking for a biologist/bioinformatician who will be excited to work on genome-scale research projects using statistical modeling and machine learning approaches, process and analyze published biological datasets and develop analytical algorithms. The ideal candidate will also utilize his/her extensive hands-on bench research experiences to improve an advanced molecular biology & genomics laboratory. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate their ability to be a pace-setting scientist, both internally and externally, to the company.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Apply statistical modeling and machine learning approaches to analyzing biological data
  • Using large-scale genomic / DNA datasets to train and develop predictive models
  • Advise and contribute to efficient study design and statistical analysis plans
  • Analysis of published biological datasets. Integration of these datasets into unified analyses. Analysis and visualization of datasets. Preparing figures and figure legends for presentation.
  • Review, synthesize, interpret, and report on analysis results
  • Implement and develop innovative analytical approaches with translational impact for biological data
  • Participate in business development forums and interact with other scientific experts.
  • Be accountable for the representation and promotion of the scientific interests of the company via the publication of papers, the giving of scientific presentations, and by encouraging and identifying new research and funding opportunities.
  • Stay up-to-date with available bioinformatics tools through literature review and computational experiments
  • Work with senior management to develop, implement, and monitor the short, medium, and long-term scientific plans, programs, and projects of the company.
  • Perform assessment of quality control metrics
  • Manage programs to meet strategic objectives (deliverables), budgets, and deadlines.


Knowledge and Skill Required:
  • Ph.D. degree in biological and health sciences
  • Experienced in developing machine learning model. Strong statistical analytical techniques
  • Proficiency in a programming language (e.g. Perl, Python, etc.) and R statistical packages.
  • Solid documented expertise in cell biology, genomics, biochemistry or related research area.
  • Familiarity with high-performance computing environments and cloud services/management systems
  • Bachelor-level training in bioinformatics, computer science, or related disciplines is required.
  • Strong programming skills, prior analysis of biological datasets, and ability to learn new types of data.
