We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate who will support the Materials and Chemistry Group in the Nuclear Nonproliferation Division, National Security Sciences Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). Major Duties/Responsibilities: * Contribute to ongoing research in solid phase electronic structure calculations, specifically density functional theory (DFT)
* Develop the use of ab initio and classical molecular dynamics methods for modeling vibrational spectroscopy of nonproliferation-relevant materials
* Investigate possible avenues of deep learning or other advanced AL/ML methods for nonproliferation-relevant materials chemistry problems Basic Qualifications: * A PhD in physics, chemistry, materials science, or a related field completed within the last 5 years Preferred Qualifications: * Experience in Python or similar coding language
* Experience in heavy element or lanthanide/actinide systems, particularly calculations of solid state and condensed matter systems
* Excellent written and oral communication skills * Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory * Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs Please submit three letters of reference when applying to this position.
