Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a biological or chemical science or a related field and one year of research experience; OR a Master's degree in biological or chemical science or a related field.

This position requires the incumbent to be vaccinated against rabies and have their serum evaluated for the presence of viral neutralizing antibodies against rabies twice a year.

This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting may not be available. If telecommuting is available, the incumbent will be required to have a telephone/mobile device, and internet access.

Executive Order 14042 requires covered Federal Contractors, including HRI, to ensure that all employees are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Employees must be fully vaccinated, unless approved for a religious or medical exemption.

Preferred Qualifications

At least two years of experience in handling infectious clinical samples and/or human pathogens at biosafety level 2 containment. Experience with data management and laboratory Information management systems (LIMS), performing neutralization assays and working in cell culture under sterile conditions.

Responsibilities

The Assistant Research Scientist will perform serology virus neutralization tests for evidence of rabies antibody, record and track results in laboratory database, prepare and maintain cell culture media, maintain cultures of mouse neuroblastomas, BHK-21 cells, cultures of primary and immortalized cell lines, perform routine laboratory housekeeping, make common stock and working solutions, assist with the laboratory inventory and the ordering of supplies and materials, reagent preparation, and provide equipment upkeep and cleaning. In addition to serology, the candidate will be assist with all aspects of rabies diagnosis from animal necropsy to releasing rabies results to the county. The incumbent will assist with research projects and manuscript preparation. Other related duties as assigned.

Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.
