PROGRAM DESCRIPTION At the Frederick National Laboratory, the CancerResearch Technology Program (CRTP) is an outward-facing, multi- disciplinaryhub where emerging technologies, cancer biology expertise and researchcapabilities are developed and implemented in a collaborative manner toaccomplish NCI research objectives. Within the CRTP is the Center for MolecularMicroscopy (CMM); in our group, scientists work in a highly collaborativeenvironment to develop and deploy cutting-edge technologies for high-resolution3-D volume electron microscopy (vEM) and correlative microscopy (CLEM) of cellsand tissues with research and/or clinical relevance. Our group works oninnovations in sample preparation, imaging strategies, image processing anddata analysis.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Shared ownership and operation of volume electron microscopy sample prep and imaging workflows
  • Ownership and operation of fluorescence microscopy and cryo preparation workflows
  • Innovation and execution in vEM and CLEM collaborations
  • Opportunity to lead on specific projects
  • Management of laboratory inventories
  • Work, write and communicate well in a team-oriented environment to carry out technological development efforts

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
  • Possession of PhD in biological sciences from an accredited college/university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), with experience in electron microscopy and fluorescence microscopy: sample preparation, microscope operation, basic image analysis and visualization. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
  • Peer-reviewed publications with full or significant contribution to writing of manuscript
  • Tissue culture and cell handling experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
  • Experience with 3-D EM techniques (FIB-SEM, SBF-SEM, TEM tomography etc)
  • Experience with cryo workflows
  • Experience in lab management
