  • You will implement, monitor, modify and enforce the Laboratory Quality Assurance requirements.
  • You will serve as the subject matter expert for laboratory quality issues and adjudicate the requirements of the program.
  • You will formulate and effect changes in polices and procedures.
  • You will comply with the State of Virginia and EPA requirements and prove the Shipyard is in compliance.
  • You will ensure all analytical data and environmental procedures comply with requirements.
  • You will conduct audits of all SOP, double blind testing, retention testing and proficiency testing.
  • You will serve as the primary contact with the State of Virginia on quality issues.
  • You will conduct work surveillances and quality system internal audits.

  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector:
  • Experience with local, state and federal regulations specifying test methods for industrial wastewater (CWA), hazardous wastes (RCRA) and lead in paint.
  • Experience with industrial process chemistry methods, coating performance test methods, bench chemistry or petroleum product test methods.
  • Experience with surveillance, assessment and audit methods necessary in conducting independent internal quality audits of environmental and industrial process laboratory work reflecting his/her position as a quality assurance expert.
  • Experience in the application of quality assurance principles and established methodology sufficient to maintain and adapt the laboratory's quality assurance program to meet changing regulations/requirements.
  • Experience conveying quality assurance program requirements and investigating discrepancies or conducting internal audits.
  • Experience with the requirements for field and laboratory accreditation under the American Association of Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA), ISO Guide 17025, DOD Quality Systems Manual, EPA Program and the National Lead Laboratory Accreditation Program (NLLAP).
