The South Dakota State University School of Design invites applications for an Instructor of Architecture to begin no later than August 2022
. This is a full time, nine-month, term, benefit eligible appointment and the position reports to the Director of the School of Design. SDSU is especially interested in candidates that can contribute to and/or coordinate course offerings that address the experiences of underrepresented minorities in organizations. The School of Design is seeking applicants for positions in all three of the accredited-built environment majors: architecture, landscape architecture and interior design. The School of Design also includes the visual arts: graphic design, and studio arts. Collectively, School faculty form a collaborative teaching and research environment that values cross-program and interdisciplinary initiatives. The successful candidate will contribute to building national and international stature and recognition for the discipline, School and University.
SDSU offers a 4-year Bachelor of Fine Arts in Architecture and a 2-year NAAB accredited Masters of Architecture degree. Architecture has a unique mandate to remain a small program of no more than 220 students, making it one of the smallest architecture programs in the USA working within a fabric of small agrarian and mining cities. https://www.sdstate.edu/architecture Position Responsibilities:
Disciplinary Content Areas:
- Teach courses within the professional curriculum, such as design studios, lectures, seminars, and workshops.
- Provide service to the discipline, university, and community.
- Teach in multi-disciplinary courses within the School of Design.
Architectural building design, technology, humanities, history, theory, and professional practices.Minimum Qualifications:
- Professional degree in Architecture from a NAAB accredited institution or international equivalent by time of appointment.
- Terminal degree (Masters or PhD) in Architecture or related field or international equivalent by time of appointment.
- Potential to develop and teach academic coursework in one or more of the disciplinary content areas.
- Professional experience in Architecture or related field.
- Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
- NCARB professional licensure to practice Architecture in the US.
- Experience teaching in an academic setting.
- Interdisciplinary research and scholarly agenda.
- Record of service within the discipline and/or profession.
