Job Summary:

The Department of Chemistry ( invites applications for one or more Adjunct Instructors for courses including: General Chemistry for Engineers and Scientists (CHEM 150), General Chemistry I lecture (CHEM 111), General Chemistry I Lab (CHEM 112), and Organic Chemistry I (CHEM 230), starting in August 2021, for the Fall 2021 semester. The University of San Francisco is a Catholic-Jesuit institution that blends the liberal arts and professional preparation, emphasizing quality teaching and student learning. The University serves a diverse group of students on a residential campus near Golden Gate Park.

Full Job Description:

Job Responsibilities:

Duties for CHEM 111, CHEM 150, and CHEM 230 include delivering lectures, holding office hours, administering quizzes and exams, and grading.

Duties for CHEM 112 lab include attending a weekly session to work through and discuss the upcoming week's experiment, delivering a short lab lecture at the beginning of lab, leading the lab section, holding office hours, and grading. There would be a meeting before the semester begins to prepare for the course.


The Fall 2021 term begins August 24 and ends December 16. As an instructor at USF, you will be hired as a part-time (adjunct) faculty. Each lecture class is a 4-unit course. Each lab section for Chem 112 is 2 units.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or closely related field. Experience teaching undergraduates is strongly preferred.
