The Montana State University Agricultural Experiment Station's mission as established in 1893 by the state statute is "to conduct and promote studies, scientific investigations and experiments relating to agriculture, natural resources, and rural life, and to diffuse information thereby acquired among the people of Montana." Scientists at the Eastern Agricultural Research Center conducts research on cereal, oilseed, pulse, and sugarbeet crops and outreach to growers in eastern region of Montana and beyond.

Duties and Responsibilities
The individual works under the supervision of the superintendent of EARC. Main responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Assist in experiment design, planning, execution, and management.
Collect and archive data.
Analyze data and write report.
Help in maintaining and trouble-shooting field and lab equipment.
Help on other tasks as needed.

Required Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

PH.D. in Agronomy, Soil Science or related field.
Demonstrated experience in field and greenhouse experiment.
Demonstrate experience in field and greenhouse measurement of plant responsive variables.

Preferred Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

Experience in agricultural research.
Experience in growing sugarbeet and cereal crops.
Experience in transporting and operating plot scale equipment.
Experience in data analysis and report writing.

Be able to follow instructions and be able to work cooperatively with others, as well as work independently.
Be able to learn new skills and carry out the duties of the position in an efficient manner, and pay attention to detail and meet deadlines.
Have skills in data entering and word processing.

Position Special Requirements/Additional Information

Continuation of employment is contingent upon the availability of funding. This Research Associate position is grant/soft money funded. The position will be renewed annually pending upon the funding availability and job performance.
Must be willing to work outside of traditional business hours when research protocols dictate.
Must be able to do some in-state and out-state travels.

Physical Demands

Must have ability to maneuver up to 60 pounds.
Must have the ability to navigate uneven terrain.
Must be willing to work outdoors in all types of adverse weather conditions.
Must be able to tolerate airborne irritants such as dust, pollen, and chemicals.
