Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Director, Assessment and Faculty Development, the Associate Director, Faculty Assessment will support the School of Professional Studies by developing metrics to assess instructional effectiveness, interpreting their results, and identifying areas for improvement. As a foundational member of the Faculty Development and Assessment team, the Associate Director of Faculty Assessment will be charged with measuring the impact of faculty development programming on instructional practices, leading pedagogical workshops and teaching forums related to educational assessment, and developing and implementing faculty needs assessments. This position will also play a major role in supporting faculty in the production of their research. The Associate Director will be a major stakeholder in the formation of policy around faculty assessment, and will work closely with Academic Affairs to implement these policies. The Associate Director should also be comfortable researching best available assessment instruments, adapting existing instruments, and creating new instruments when necessary. The Associate Director will need to be a strong collaborator and team player who prizes collegiality and can work effectively with a diverse staff.

  • Developing and implementing instruments for measuring instructional effectiveness
  • Assisting with the interpretation of data from student evaluations, identifying areas of instructional improvement, and consulting with instructors about their evaluations
  • Assist programs with raising response rates for student evaluations
  • Cleaning, coding, and managing databases on instructor performance
  • Partner with the Director of Faculty Affairs to produce reports and provide data to be used by faculty committees to inform faculty reviews and promotions
  • Creation of databases to measure on attendance at faculty development events and designing other metrics to measure faculty engagement with faculty development offerings
  • Developing and implementing surveys, interview protocols, and focus groups in order to determine faculty needs and satisfaction, as well as to identify potential areas for improvement in faculty development programming
  • Leading pedagogical workshops and faculty teaching forums on topics related to educational assessment and other areas of teaching and learning
  • Consulting with instructors on appropriate course-level assessments for student learning
  • Conducting classroom observations of faculty
  • Developing and providing training and workshops for program evaluation, survey design, interviews, and other professional development needs as requested
  • Supporting faculty with multiple components of the research process: assist with the production of literature reviews, formulating research questions, analyzing data, and drawing inferences in the production of their research
  • Conducting ongoing research examining the relationship between developed metrics and variables that best predict instructional effectiveness
  • Assisting academic programs with programmatic assessment
  • Working closely with faculty with utmost confidentiality
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned or requested

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree desirable
  • 4 years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in social sciences, education, research/statistics, or related field
  • Familiarity with the scholarship of teaching and learning
  • Familiarity with assessment in higher education
  • Experience with program evaluation
  • Teaching experience at the higher education level

Other Requirements

  • Experience with educational assessment
  • Experience in designing and implementing instruments that provide direct and indirect indicators of student learning
  • Strong knowledge of research design, quantitative analyses, and qualitative analyses
  • Strong proficiency with Qualtrics or other survey software
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders across multiple units within an institution/organization
  • Ability to work with faculty across disciplines
  • Demonstrated ability to work under time pressure. Must be comfortable working in an entrepreneurial environment
  • Motivated, independent, and creative thinker

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and strong presentation skills
