Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Dir-Outcomes Res & Prog Eval.

In this role, the successful candidate Leads, guides and inspires nursing and interdisciplinary staff and leadership in evaluating nursing and clinical initiatives and conducting applied research studies that address the clinical, service and organizations needs of the institution. Provides leadership that creates an environment that stimulates, initiates and supports outcomes evaluation and applied nursing and interdisciplinary research; facilitates and coordinates studies through the review process; engages nursing and clinical staff in evaluation and outcomes research studies at NYUHC (TH, RIRM, HJD).

Job Responsibilities:
  • Serves as a consultant to nursing leadership and service delivery leaders in the areas of data collection, analyses, reporting, quality improvement and measurement of outcomes.
  • Promotes efforts to improve access to information and the ability of clinical staff at all levels to use data to generate change and improvements. Collaborates with IT and nursing informatics staff to utilize the most effective technology to distribute reports and allow users to construct their own reports (e.g. maintains a web site).
  • Articulates an understanding of patient care delivery, focusing on patient outcomes through interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Recommends and collaborates on clinical research projects that examine changes in practices that benefit patient outcomes and care.
  • Supports staff to examine problems associated with caring for particular patient populations through the use of evaluation and applied research studies.
  • Participates in efforts to develop evidence based clinical and executive practice.
  • Provides data support and evaluation expertise to design processes that facilitate age-appropriate, culturally sensitive, and ethical care for patients.
  • Promotes evaluation and applied research activities that support the Medical Centers and departments mission and goals and objectives.
  • Identifies and recommends critical evaluation and applied research issues to the CNO that have significant relevance to the institution .
  • Recommends and establishes priorities for appropriate and feasible evaluation and applied research studies that meet institutional priorities.Remains aware of current health policy issues that may impact NYULMC Nursing or influence program evaluation/applied research initiatives.
  • Collaborates with others engaged in ongoing growth of the nursing research program.Collaborates on Evidence Based Conferences or Research Forums on a periodic basis.
  • Facilitates and coordinates evaluation and applied research projects requesting NYUHC or Departments of Nursing as a site for graduate study or multi-site projects.Serves as liaison with Research Nurses, Clinical Coordinators and others interested in research at NYU Medical Center.
  • Serves as an expert and advocate for protection of human subjects.Establishes collaborative relationships with nursing staff, leadership, medical staff, and other administrative staff throughout the medical center.
  • Functions in a collaborative manner with the College of Nursing at New York University, in areas of research, student and faculty engagement in the Departments of Nursing evidence based practice initiatives and programs.
  • Role models service standards in actions and communications with patients, families, staff and other disciplines.Functions as a respectful leader of the health care team.
  • Develops and monitors the program-based research funds.Conducts activities in fiscally sound and effective manner.
  • Supports organizational and regulatory compliance policies and standards regarding the practice of research.
  • Supports and participates in the professional learning environment that fosters life long learning among nursing and clinical staff and appreciation of evaluation and applied research to examine policy and institutional priorities.
  • Collaborates in the development of appropriate educational offerings that address issues relevant to evaluation and applied research such as information literacy, current themes in measuring health quality and outcomes, and implications of health policy on clinical practices
  • Serves as resource to staff and leadership for development of program evaluation and applied research studies, including assessments of quality improvement and outcomes activities in the institution.
  • Maintains evaluation and applied research competency by participation in continuing education, professional organizations and other related activities.Fosters participation in research conferences, and other related conferences
  • Supports educational affiliations for purposes of providing research experiences for students.Facilitates and encourages preparation of abstracts, paper/poster presentations and publication of research studies
  • Establishes annual goals and objectives for evaluation and applied research projects with the CON and patient care services leadership.
  • Develops study design, methodologies and protocols and directs ongoing applied research and evaluation studies based on priorities of the institution and the current health policy environment.
  • Identifies methods of data collection and directs development and maintenance of databases to provide statistical analysis and reports for the CNO and clinical leadership.
  • Collaborates with Quality, Informatics and IT to identify appropriate measures to monitor processes and outcomes of clinical practice and identify areas for improvement efforts. Participates in designing meaningful data-driven reports for distribution to designated groups of clinicians, e.g. scorecards, dashboards or other reporting mechanisms.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary quality improvement and research programs as feasible.Identifies potential funding sources for evaluation and applied research activities.
  • Directs preparation of progress reports and proposals to ensure awareness of the current status, progress and future direction of evaluation and applied research studies.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Education: Doctoral degree in discipline related to Health Services Research including sociology, public health or related field required. Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a leadership position in a healthcare or academic setting; Minimum of 7 years of evaluation and/or applied research experience; Track record of grant funding and publication; Excellent skills in the following areas: verbal and written communication, critical thinking, creativity, interpersonal relationships and team building, change management, evidence based practice; articulation of professional nursing practice; grant development, funding sources, regulatory requirements pertinent to research funding and supports an environment of learning;Demonstrated ability to conduct both process and outcomes-based evaluation and applied research studies, as well as appreciation of appropriate use of qualitative and quantitative methodologies and research designs. Ability to use secondary databases in addition to primary data collection methods; sound statistical knowledge; Incorporates Forces of Magnetism in work performed, as relevant to the study;Participation in pertinent professional organizations, e.g., Academy Health, National Evaluation Association, Gerontological Society of America Self directed, Physical stamina, manual dexterity, visual and aural acuity to perform responsibilities.
