Microbiology Research Assistant Argonne Lemont, IL
40-hour work week. (Some overtime might be required)
Current Project Length Estimate: Until 9/30/22
Argonne is looking for a Microbiology Research Assistant who will provide support to the Biosciences Division scientific staff. The research is focused on describing the microbial composition of a variety of environmental samples (wetland, open field). An Ideal candidate must be self-motivated with a superb attention to detail.
Duties
Most work will consist of laboratory experimentation.
Sterility (aseptic technique)
Controls & Quality Assurance duties
Effectively communicate results to the rest of the team, and troubleshoot small issues when necessary.
Required Skills:
Experience with running and analyzing optical density assays
Experience designing combinatorial (plate-based) experimental protocols
Previous work growing diverse isolates with different growth rates and media requirements
Sterility (aseptic technique)
Chemistry background (solution preparation, molarity calculations)
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
BS or MS with microbiology degree and 1-2 years of relevant experience
(Background in environmental microbiology is preferred)
