The role

Health Economics Bristol undertakes research and teaching on health economics and policy and is part of the Bristol Medical School, a leading centre for collaborative and multi-disciplinary research in population and translational health sciences. Our highly-rated research is focused on resource allocation in practice in the health and care sectors, and contributes to significant changes in public health care services and policy around the globe. With the development of a new MSc in Health Economics and Health Policy Analysis, to begin in Autumn 2022, we wish to appoint posts at Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level in Health Economics and/or Health Policy Analysis. The posts will be located within the Health Economics at Bristol (HEB) research group.

We wish to appoint highly talented health economists/health policy researchers to contribute to both research and teaching. The successful candidates will develop their own research programmes, contribute to a range of applied and methodological research projects, take a leadership role within the new MSc in Health Economics and Health Policy Analysis, conduct teaching, manage early career researchers, supervise doctoral students and be involved in leadership and management activities. One appointee will be asked to take on the co-directorship of the new MSc course.

What will you be doing?
  • Conduct high-quality research, contributing to existing research, developing your own research ideas and seeking research funding, including as part of multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Contribute to teaching leadership and teaching for the new MSc in Health Economics and Health Policy Analysis
  • Act as co-director for the MSc in Health Economics and Health Policy Analysis (one post)
  • Provide leadership, project management and supervision for junior project staff and doctoral researchers.
  • Disseminate research findings including through publications, conferences, meetings and other forms of dissemination, to generate impact and engagement within and beyond academia.
  • Take on leadership and management roles as appropriate and provide expert advice on research issues to colleagues.


You should apply if
  • You have broad knowledge and deep expertise in health economics and/or health policy research.
  • You have experience of, and enthusiasm for, teaching and teaching leadership roles.
  • You have experience of conducting high-quality health economics research.
  • You have the potential to secure your own research funding and to contribute to multi-disciplinary research collaborations,
  • You have a strong record of dissemination, including a good publication record in peer-reviewed journals
  • You are willing to extend your teaching and learning skills, particularly in relation to the provision of blended learning.
  • You are able to communicate effectively orally and in writing to health economists, clinicians, other professional groups, and lay audiences.
  • You are able to work both independently and in a team.
