The University of South Carolina is accepting applications for
an Artist Performer/Assistant Professor of Guitar. This 9-month,
tenure-track position will begin August 16, 2022.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach undergraduate and
graduate applied guitar students, guitar literature, pedagogy,
and ensemble as necessary. Maintain a high level of
professional visibility at regional, national and international
levels. Recruit students for undergraduate and graduate programs
and supervise guitar graduate assistants.
QUALIFICATIONS: An earned doctorate in
music is preferred; an earned master's degree in music or
equivalent professional experience is required. Candidates
should have an established record of teaching and demonstrate
excellence as a performer. Primary consideration will be
given to candidates with a successful record of
teaching guitar at the collegiate level, and a record of, or vision
for, student recruitment. Preference will be given
to a candidate who demonstrates previous
experience and/or potential for innovative instruction
in guitar to meet the needs of the
21st century guitarist.

GENERAL INFORMATION: The University of
South Carolina in Columbia, founded in 1801, is the
flagship Carnegie Level R1 research institution
of a seven-campus, fully accredited, state-supported system. The
School of Music is an independent unit on campus and a dynamic
leader for music and music education in the United
States, with a full-time faculty of 60 and a student
population of 485. Degrees
in guitar performance are offered through the
doctoral level.
