Lecturer (Journalism) The Department of English at Brown University seeks to appoint a
journalist in the Nonfiction Writing Program at the rank of
Lecturer. This is a three-year renewable term, effective July
1, 2022.
The Nonfiction Writing Program constitutes a significant
track within the English Department undergraduate
concentration. By combining academic writing, creative
nonfiction, and journalism within one innovative program, it seeks
to train readers, writers, and critics across the range of
nonfiction genres. The program offers introductory,
intermediate, and advanced courses in academic writing,
journalism, and other creative nonfiction forms (memoir,
personal essay, historical narrative, travel writing, science
and environmental writing, cultural criticism, and digital
nonfiction).
Journalists whose published writing and teaching interests are
concerned with matters of race and racial policy, race and
gender, race and class struggle, and/or global influences on
these subjects are especially encouraged to apply. Those with
experience with evolving means of content creation and
dissemination, including digital media/platforms, media
literacy, and/or contemporary journalism ethics and theory are also
especially encouraged to apply.
Qualifications: MA in journalism; or BA in journalism and an
advanced degree in a related field and evidence of teaching
journalistic writing at the post-secondary level. Completed
