ABOUT JOHN JAY COLLEGE John Jay College of Criminal Justice is a senior college of the City University of New York (CUNY) and an internationally recognized leader in educating for justice. POSITION OVERVIEW The Department of Law, Police Science, and Criminal Justice Administration (LPS) at John Jay College of Criminal Justice invites applications for one full-time lecturer position to begin Fall 2022. The successful candidate will teach courses in the undergraduate program including Research Methods and Introduction to Criminal Justice. Candidates must be willing to serve as the coordinator of the CJBS Major (Criminal Justice Bachelor of Science), which includes assessment and curricular development for a large major of over 4,000 students. Two years of successful college-level teaching experience is required, as are positive teaching evaluations. Candidates are expected to have expertise in criminal justice and research methods. The hiring committee is especially interested in applicants who contribute to the diversity mission of the college through their leadership, community service, research, and/or lived experiences. The position of lecturer is tenure-bearing through what is called a "certificate of continuous employment" (CCE) after the sixth annual reappointment. This position of lecturer is a teaching position with a course load of eight classes per year in addition to major expectations of departmental service. There is no expectation of research or publication. The Department of Law, Police Science, and Criminal Justice Administration is the Flagship Department of John Jay College of Criminal Justice. We are an interdisciplinary department whose faculty specialize in criminal justice broadly defined. This includes the fields of criminal justice, international criminal justice, policing, law, courts, and corrections. LPS is home to the Criminal Justice Bachelor of Science (CJBS) major which enrolls more than 4,000 undergraduate students, the Police Science Major and, on a rotating basis, the International Criminal Justice Major. CUNY anticipates a return to fully onsite work before January 2022 and this position is based in New York, NY. QUALIFICATIONS Candidates must have a master's degree, J.D., or PhD in a related field at the time of appointment. Also required is the ability to teach successfully (minimum two years of successful college-level teaching experience with positive teaching evaluations), a willingness to participate in course and program development, and the ability to work with others.
