DEPARTMENT OF EAST ASIAN STUDIES

NEW YORK UNIVERSITY
ARTS AND SCIENCE

The Department of East Asian Studies at New York University invites
applications for an open field tenure-track position (Assistant
Professor) in Korean Studies. The initial appointment begins
September 1, 2022, and is subject to budgetary and administrative
approval.

Eligibility requirements:
We
encourage all applicants engaged with critical and methodological
issues connected to Korea
(inclusive of North Korea)
and
East Asian Studies, including those working within and across media
and film, and cultural studies, with a historical perspective. We
seek candidates interested in working in a department that
encourages transregional and global perspectives.
The search
committee is especially interested to hear from candidates
who
will bring to their research and teaching the diverse perspectives
that come from non-traditional educational backgrounds and
approaches or an understanding of those under-represented in higher
education.

Requirements include a Ph.D. in Korean Studies or a related
field completed by the time of appointment, demonstrated excellence
in scholarship, a commitment to both undergraduate teaching (survey
and upper-division levels) and graduate education and an interest
in participating in the college's interdisciplinary program in East
Asian Studies.

Application components:
Applicants should
submit a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a writing sample (20-30
pages), sample syllabi for both an undergraduate and a graduate
course, three references letters, as well as a
statement
describing the ways in which your (1) scholarship,
(2) teaching and mentoring, and/or (3) service and engagement
demonstrate your commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We
are particularly interested in hearing about concrete steps you
have taken (or are planning to take) to foster an inclusive
intellectual environment in your research, in the classroom, in the
department, and on campus, and/or in the discipline more
generally.

Method of application via Interfolio: Applicants must apply through
Interfolio using this link:
http://apply.interfolio.com/97527

Application deadline:
All materials must be
received by
December 29, 2021.
