This is an exciting career opportunity in the Biochemistry and Biophysics Group within the Department of Quantitative Biosciences at our Research & Development Division - Boston.

Responsibilities
  • Assume a leading role in devising strategy and in the development of biochemical and biophysical assay funnel to support target validation, hit-to-lead and lead optimization programs
  • Represent biochemistry/biophysics within a cross functional core team to support discovery programs
  • Collaborate within the pharmacology department and across functional areas to enable generation of protein/cell reagents and implementation of emerging technology platforms
  • Excel in a collaborative, multifaceted, fast-paced working environment
  • Perform hands-on experiments and minimal scientific/managerial supervision of junior scientist(s)


Education Requirement
  • PhD degree in biochemistry, biophysics or a related discipline with a minimum of five years industry experience, preferablywith direct involvement and ability in assay development and compound profiling within a drug discovery environment or
  • M.S and B.S/B.A degrees with eight to twelve years of industry experience, respectively


Experience and Skills

Required
  • Proven ability to independently design, develop and implement biochemical and biophysical screening assays using an array of detection modalities
  • Conducting biochemical and biophysical studies to elucidate the modes of ligand interaction and mechanisms of action on target proteins
  • Peer-reviewed original research papers in one or more of the following areas: protein structure and conformation, protein-protein/protein-ligand interaction, antibody-antigen interaction, receptor pharmacology, enzyme reaction mechanisms and/or mechanism of enzyme inhibition
  • Principled and strong analytical, organizational and communication skills and a proven ability to work in a team or collaboration-based environment


Preferred
  • Effective in leading the integration of biochemical/biophysical assay platforms into program ROPs to drive med chem
  • Direct experience conducting steady-state kinetic experiments to study enzymes and inhibitors
  • Direct experience in recombinant protein expression using bacteria, insect (baculovirus) and/or mammalian cell-based systems and purification using automated chromatographic separation systems
  • Use of automated liquid handlers such as Echo, Bravo, Biomek, or Hamilton
  • Data analysis/visualization software such as TIBCO Spotfire and PRISM
  • TR-FRET, FP, LC-MS, radiochemical, surface plasmon resonance (BIAcore), fluorescence-based thermal shift (TdF), and/or isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC)
  • Mammalian cell culture techniques including transfection, IP, and proteomic analysis
  • Investigating intracellular ligand target interactions
