JOB DESCRIPTION: The School of Art and Design at West Virginia University is accepting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Graphic Design beginning Fall 2022. This is a full-time, 9-month, benefits-eligible position.

The graphic design area seeks an assistant professor to collaborate and contribute to a well-rounded department. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in contemporary graphic design issues and have a deep understanding of the profession. Expertise expected in two or more areas including: branding, design for social impact, exhibition design, design research, motion graphics, user interface and experience (UI and UX) design, design-system thinking.

This tenure-track professor assignment will consist of 40% teaching, 40% research/creative activity, 20% service. Teaching will be a 3/3 load consisting of teaching from the sophomore to senior level. Additional teaching, administrative, and/or service responsibilities will include other assignments according to the needs of the program, the School of Art and Design, and the abilities and interests of the candidate. Participation in School of Art and Design activities, attracting and retaining students, curriculum development and faculty governance is required.

About the graphic design area:
From writing code to binding books, our students are encouraged to learn a wide range of skills, while investigating how graphic design impacts culture, communicates ideas, and instigates change. Alumni have a proven track record of gaining employment in cities across the country. Faculty have access to the tools and resources of an R1 institution and also have the opportunity to develop and teach specialized courses at the senior level.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must have an MFA or equivalent terminal degree by the starting date of employment. University-level teaching experience is preferred. The School of Art and Design seeks a candidate who will demonstrate exemplary communication skills, collegiality, and the ability to contribute to the intellectual and cultural life of the University.
