Continuing position available immediately

An exciting opportunity exists for a team oriented equine nurse to join the team at the University of Adelaide's state-of-the-art Equine Health and Performance Centre at Roseworthy.

We are seeking a suitably qualified veterinary nurse to provide high care for all equine patients. Duties include working in the hospital setting with internal medicine specialists, monitoring and treatment of hospitalised patients including emergency triage and critical care, working with equine surgeons on elective and emergency procedures and providing support and assistance to primary opinion clinicians for both emergency and non-emergency consultations.

Working as part of the clinical team you will be required to work through a 24/7 roster, which includes nights, weekends, and public holidays.

The Equine Health and Performance Centre (EHPC) is part of the School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences' clinical teaching facility which operates on a commercial basis, offering a range of first opinion and specialist veterinary services to the general public and referring veterinarians. The EHPC also provides a clinical training environment for veterinary students working under the close supervision of experienced veterinarians, nurses and support staff. The EHPC is situated on the University's picturesque Roseworthy Campus, approximately 9km from the township of Gawler and on the doorstep of the world-renowned Barossa Valley wine region.

This position suits an enthusiastic, team-oriented equine nurse with a passion for delivering the highest standards of service and care. You have proven experience as an equine veterinary nurse in a clinical setting with experience in emergency triage, medical and surgical nursing. You are able to work in high pressure situations, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and are motivated to mentor the next generation of vets and nurses by imparting knowledge and modelling the highest standards of professional behaviour.

To be successful you will need:
  • Demonstrated experience and high level expertise in general horse handling.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a clinical setting.
  • Attention to detail in record keeping and documentation.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work independently but participate cooperatively in team activities.
  • Demonstrated experience and/or knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety.

As part of the recruitment process you will be required to undertake a medical assessment
