Assistant or Associate Professor of Educational Leadership (Tenure Track)

Hiring Range:

Salary is commensurate with experience. Santa Clara University will assist with relocation and housing costs. Benefits are consistent with a premium university.

The Santa Clara University School of Education & Counseling Psychology invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor of Educational Leadership whose expertise, experience, teaching, advising, mentoring and scholarship is in the area of K-12 Administration and/or Social Impact Leadership. We embrace a teacher-scholar model of faculty engagement, and so place equal weight on high quality teaching and scholarship. Faculty in the Educational Leadership program all teach and advise students in both the MA and EdD programs and serve as dissertation supervisors as part of their teaching assignment. The appointment would start on September 1, 2022.

The Education Department, and the Educational Leadership program within it, has a racially and ethnically diverse faculty and student body, and a strong commitment to preparing educators who are devoted to responding to the needs of all children and families. The Educational Leadership program is experiencing substantial growth and investment from the university. Silicon Valley is a region with high levels of racial, ethnic and linguistic diversity and also high levels of economic inequality. We successfully prepare school and system-level leaders in the Silicon Valley with a strong focus on social justice, grounded in our Jesuit mission and values. Our graduates are prepared to address educational inequities and make a substantive difference in the educational experiences of children and youth in the Valley. Our new EdD in Social Justice Leadership embodies this mission and vision. We are seeking a scholar-practitioner who shares our mission and vision of education as a tool for social justice.

We are seeking a colleague who fully embraces our mission and seeks to actively carry it out in each facet of the position. Specifically, four commitments ground the mission of the Department of Education:

* Cura personalis, or the care for and growth of the whole person, which informs not just how we teach our students, but also how we expect our students to engage their own constituents;
* Social justice and anti-racism, along with the pursuit of educational equity through the preparation of leaders;
* Transformation through the development of our students into equity-oriented leaders and agents of change; and
* Diversity of faculty and students, who enrich educational settings, our Educational Leadership program and scholarly research through their critical voices and perspectives.

Our department endeavors to live out these commitments not only in its academic and scholarly pursuits, but especially in its educational partnerships.

Our educational leadership program includes administrative credential, MA, and and EdD program, with available emphases in K-12 education, Higher Education, and Social Impact Leadership. We have two needs in the program at this time - in K-12 Leadership and in Social Impact Leadership, and we are seeking candidates who can fill one of these needs.

In the K-12 Leadership area, we are seeking an experienced educational leader with an active research agenda to teach and advise students - in the credential, MA, and EdD program - who are moving into formal K-12 leadership. The specific courses that the individual would teach is open, but would necessarily include some courses in the administrative services credential program (for those aspiring to K-12 leadership) as well as teaching and advising students in the EdD.

In the Social Impact Leadership area, we are looking for a candidate with experience engaging with social impact organizations - broadly defined - as well as an active research agenda focused on community engagement and development. We believe that Social Impact Leadership is focused on the specific issues and complexities related to the communities served by social impact or community-based organizations. Social impact focuses on eradicating social inequities and building collective capacity. Social impact leaders can be positioned within education systems or in alternative systems that lie outside of formal education. These leaders challenge orthodoxy, and redefine and resituate long-held constructs to meet social impact goals. These leaders respond to the tensions that lie between individual achievement and collective striving, wealth creation and equitable redistribution, and hold commitments towards anti-racism and all its intersections.

The candidate is expected to work towards establishing community connections in an effort to link the department with surrounding communities and organizations within them, with a direct purpose of creating meaningful partnerships that unite the community with our mission of diversity, student development, and social equity. The department has a strong commitment to increasing diversity awareness and furthering multicultural engagement among students, faculty, and staff. Candidates are encouraged to address their professional interests and personal experiences relevant to achieving this goal in their application.

The successful candidate will satisfy all of the following requirements:

* Earned PhD or EdD in Education or related field, or plans to complete the degree by the time of appointment.
* Proven success or exceptional promise for accomplishment in scholarship.
* Committed to the mission of the university with an emphasis on anti-racism and a just and sustainable world.
* Strong knowledge of and experience in the K-12 Administration and/or Social Impact Leadership landscapes and current research leadership for K-12 and/or social impact educational contexts.
* Ability to develop effective partnerships with community stakeholders and colleagues across the Graduate School of Education and Counseling Psychology

This search is open to candidates at both Assistant and Associate Professor level, and applications are welcomed from candidates anywhere in that spectrum - from recent graduates through established Associate Professors.

Preference will be given to candidates with the following qualifications:

* Experience working with diverse and marginalized communities in K-12 and/or social impact/community settings.
* Prior teaching and leadership experiences in P-K12 and/or Social impact settings
* Evidence of successful college/university teaching
* Demonstrated ability to advise graduate students, supervise dissertations, and can contribute to overall program development.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Applicants are expected to submit (via the online application process) all the following documentation noted below. Applications received by November 1 will receive full consideration; applications accepted until the position is filled.

* Curriculum Vitae (CV) Cover letter addressing essential qualifications, scholarship agenda, and teaching philosophy
* Samples of recent written work. Published work is preferred, but recent work showcasing the applicants' research direction is also encouraged,
* A statement demonstrating the candidate's commitment to social justice, anti-racism, and diversity. Candidates can speak about how their work, research, and/or teaching contribute to our commitment to ensuring an inclusive environment for students, staff and faculty, and in support of inclusion in the broader educational and social impact community.
* Recent teaching evaluations, if available.
* Names and contact information for four references. References will be contacted at the finalist stage, and candidates will be told before references will be contacted.
