The West Virginia University (WVU) School of Public Health seeks a faculty member to join the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics as an Assistant or Associate Professor. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to innovative teaching and research for a dynamic department in a diverse academic environment. The Department currently includes 12 full-time faculty members with expertise and interests in substance use, injury prevention, mental health, cardiovascular disease, mind body therapies, pharmacoepidemiology, spatial epidemiology, and physical activity epidemiology. The department supports a PhD in Epidemiology, MPH concentrations in both Epidemiology and Biostatistics, an MS in Biostatistics, and a graduate certificate in applied biostatistics. The department also supports the school's two BS programs and MS in Population Health. Our diverse faculty actively partner with many groups, including the West Virginia (WV) Clinical and Translational Science Institute, the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center, the WV Prevention Research Center, the WVU School of Medicine, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), and various offices within WV Department of Health and Human Resources, including the Bureau for Medical Services and the Bureaus of Public and Behavioral Health. The CEPH-accredited School of Public Health is located within WVU's Health Sciences Center campus, which is uniquely co-located with WVU Medicine's flagship hospital, a regional office of CDC/NIOSH, and the local county health department.

Position Description:

We invite applicants with broad research and teaching interests in epidemiology and/or analytic methods. We especially welcome applicants with an applied focus and who can teach courses critical to the needs of the Department and the School of Public Health. These needs/interests include social epidemiology and health disparities research, clinical trials, management and analysis of "big data", or chronic disease epidemiology. Expertise and/or experience in issues pertaining to rural or underserved populations are especially desirable, but not required. This is for a 9-month faculty appointment. Applicants are required to develop and maintain an extramurally funded research agenda, teach courses in the graduate and undergraduate programs, and participate in departmental service. The ideal candidate could teach and mentor students across the Department's two core disciplines - epidemiology and biostatistics. Track and rank will be commensurate with experience and scholarly activities.

Specific Requirements:

The candidate should possess a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in epidemiology or a related discipline. Candidates should supply a curriculum vitae; cover letter detailing research and teaching philosophy, as well as area(s) of interest; and full contact information for at least three professional references. Applicants will be notified prior to references being contacted. Candidates should have strong writing, public speaking, and presentation skills and be fluent in English.
