Field of research this position is engaged in:

Fortilin, a 172-amino-acid protein, in human diseases with main focus on cardiovascular diseases but also other human diseases. Please visit our web site to learn what we do. We utilize molecular and cell biology techniques as well as whole animal models to elucidate the role of fortilin in human diseases. Our lab is a leading lab in fortilin research.

Purpose of the research project(s) this position supports:

We have investigated fortilin for the last 20+ years and a leader in fortilin research. We continue to investigate the role of fortilin in human diseases. The successful applicant will work with the other team members to perform rigorous and innovative fortilin research. Our goal is to bring fortilin from bench to bedside through cutting edge molecular biology and translational research.

The Fujise Lab is located on the South Lake Union campus and within the Center for Cardiovascular Biology, Division of Cardiology, Department of Internal Medicine. The lab started in July 1996 in Houston, Texas and has focused on fortilin, a multi-functional protein that plays key roles in various human diseases.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The focus of the Research Scientist Associate position within the Fujise Lab is to work as a team to bring fortilin from bench to bedside. The Research Scientist will report to and work closely with the Principal Investigator, who will mentor him/her for his/her professional goals and development. Excellent people and communication skills are critical for success. The scope of the job includes and is not limited to:
  • Animal breeding, genotyping, and characterization.
  • Cell-based assaysapoptosis assays, cell-cycle progression assays, foam cell formation assays, etc.
  • Tissue culture proceduresmonoclonal cloning of the stably transfected cell lines, expansion of hybridoma clones, and maintenance of key cell lines
  • Various molecular biological proceduresimmunoprecipitation-Western blot analysis, Protein purification, RT-qPCR, immunostaining, and cloning.
  • Writing: (a) Write a protocol and maintain it updated, (b) write methodology and result sections of the manuscripts, (c) generate figures that depict the results of the performed experiments, and (d) re-format the manuscripts for appropriate journal styles.
  • Quantification of scanned or acquired images such as electron microscopic and immunohistochemistry images using image-analysis software.
