The Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Missouri-Kansas City educates, trains and graduates medical students, residents and fellows in accordance with the highest professional standards; practices and role models patient-centered medicine; advances the field of knowledge in internal medicine; and improves the health of the community. We are dedicated to eliminating disparities in health outcomes.

The Department of Internal Medicine provides a full range of clinical patient care services at Truman Medical Centers and Saint Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. The Department also has faculty members that provide patient care in selected areas at the Center for Behavioral Medicine and Research Medical Center.

At Truman Medical Center-Hospital Hill, we staff six general internal medicine inpatient services and 11 subspecialty services that provide a combination of inpatient and consultation care (Critical Care Medicine, Cardiology, Hematology/Oncology, Dermatology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Infectious Diseases, Nephrology, Palliative Care, Pulmonary Diseases and Rheumatology). With the exception of critical care medicine and palliative care, all of the above services as well as Sleep Medicine and Weight Management are also available in the hospital-based ambulatory setting.

A similar spectrum of internal medical services are available in the ambulatory setting at Truman Medical Center-Lakewood. Hospital services are more limited, with inpatient consultative services available 1-5 times per week depending on specialty

RESPONSIBILITIES

The individual should have the clinical, academic, and personal skills to lead an active academic section. The Chief will be expected to enhance an established Diabetic Center, and to recruit and mentor junior faculty, to include scholarly development in either teaching and/or research. Duties include teaching medical students, residents, and fellows in both outpatient and inpatient settings and protected administrative/academic time.
