Avidity Biosciences is pioneering a new class of oligonucleotide-based therapies called AOCs to overcome the current limitations of oligonucleotide therapies. We utilize our proprietary AOC platform to design, engineer and develop therapeutics that combine the tissue selectivity of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) and the precision of oligonucleotide-based therapies to access previously undruggable tissue and cell types and more effectively target underlying genetic drivers of diseases.
Job Description:
We are seeking a Scientist/Senior Scientist to join our team in La Jolla. The successful candidate will be a key driver to expand Avidity's AOC platform for oligonucleotide delivery. The position will shape research strategies, experimentally evaluate technologies, design molecules, and implement chemical solutions. The person should be a strong team player, clear communicator, enjoys scientific discovery and works effectively in a collaborative interdisciplinary environment. The ideal candidate will have biotech/pharma experience with nucleic acid and bioconjugate therapeutics.

Primary responsibilities of this position will include:
- Devise strategies to identify and evaluate oligonucleotide delivery technologies
- Design and perform experiments in support of oligonucleotide delivery
- Participate in efforts to determine AOC intracellular trafficking patterns
- Design and synthesize protein/peptide/antibody oligonucleotide conjugates
- Lead/participate in drug discovery project teams, analysis of experimental data and providing medicinal chemistry as well as drug discovery expertise
- Preparation and communication of research results in both oral and written formats
- Manage collaborations with internal and external partners
- Antibody bioconjugation is a plus
Required Experience and Skills:
- Ph.D. in organic chemistry or chemical biology with 3-5+ years of postdoctoral or industry experience; M.S. with 7-10+ years of experience
- Oligonucleotide or intracellular delivery technologies
- Strong background in intracellular protein/antibody trafficking pathways
- Strong track record of achievement in drug discovery and lead optimization projects
- Proven ability to conduct self-directed research, and to work effectively in a dynamic environment with a diverse team of co-workers
- Solid written and oral communication skills, enthusiasm, integrity, self-motivation, strong interpersonal skills, and attention to detail are necessary
