Director, Baylor Interdisciplinary Core & Tenured Associate or Full Professor

Baylor University seeks a Director for the Baylor Interdisciplinary Core (BIC). The BIC is an alternative core curriculum in the Honors College at Baylor. The successful candidate will hold an appointment as a tenured associate or full professor and administer an interdisciplinary program comprised of 700 undergraduate students, 13 permanent faculty, and 5 staff. The BIC began in 1995 as a novel curriculum and continues to exemplify innovation as a program. The BIC is now an established fixture of the Baylor community and is well-positioned for continued accomplishment and national leadership.

The BIC Director will champion undergraduate education, with an emphasis upon the value of an integrated liberal arts education. While guided by his or her own disciplinary expertise, the Director will demonstrate commitment to interdisciplinary perspectives, world cultures, contemporary social dynamics and challenges, the exploration of primary texts, and spiritually-informed moral and ethical development-all hallmarks of the BIC's curriculum. The BIC Director reports to the dean of the Honors College and, joined by other program directors and associate deans, provides routine counsel as a part of the academic leadership of the Honors College. The Director manages the
operational, academic, and budgetary activities of the BIC department and oversees faculty progress toward teaching, research, and service expectations. The Director also teaches BIC courses, conducts scholarly research, and provides service appropriate to the position. The BIC Director is responsible for generating and communicating the department's vision to the dean and university. The Director must articulate the department's goals and needs within the college and university, promote faculty growth and professional development, build faculty and staff support, and oversee student recruitment and retention. The BIC Director is responsible for advancing
interdisciplinary teaching and research by ensuring curricular coherence, faculty continuity across courses, and disciplinary integrity by maintaining connections with Baylor chairs and disciplinary leaders.

Located in Waco, Texas, Baylor University is the oldest college in the state of Texas. With a population of around 21,000 students, Baylor is one of the top universities in the country. Our strategic plan, Illuminate, which outlines the University's R1/Tier 1 aspirations, guides the University as we continue to live up to Baylor's mission of educating men and women for worldwide leadership and service by integrating academic excellence and Christian commitment within a caring community.

Qualifications
The Director must hold a terminal degree and qualify for a tenured appointment as associate professor or full professor in the Baylor Interdisciplinary Core. Successful candidates will possess a record of relevant administrative experience and responsibility indicative of readiness for leadership in an academic department of BIC's size and stature. In service to the educational vision, curricular emphases, and specific leadership activities noted above, the Director should have experience with 3 undergraduate-focused, high-impact learning practices; value a faith-based, Christian education; demonstrate commitment to equity and diversity; and support opportunities for undergraduate research and global engagement.

Application Instructions
Candidates should submit all application materials through Interfolio. A complete application consists of (1) a cover letter that presents a vision of contribution and leadership for BIC, describes all relevant experience, and addresses the University's mission statement and strategic plan, Illuminate; (2) a current curriculum vitae; (3) an official transcript of the highest degree completed; (4) a statement of religious faith; and (5) three professional references with contact information. References will be contacted at a later stage of the search upon prior notice to the applicant. Finalists will be invited for interviews with the department and university administration on campus.
