Position Title: Lecturer in Law, Legal Analysis, Writing and Research Posting Number: F2100183 Employer: State FTE: 1.00 Position Summary: The University at Buffalo School of Law invites applications for the position of Lecturer in Law in its Legal Analysis, Writing, and Research ( LAWR ) Program. The LAWR Program provides intensive skills training to first-, second-, and third-year law students with a strong emphasis on small-group and individual learning. This position involves a full-time 12-month University appointment for an initial period of two years, beginning in the summer of 2022, with an assumption that at least one subsequent three-year appointment will follow. The possibility of renewing these appointments after the initial five-year period is also assumed. One position will be filled at a salary of $65,000 - $70,000 per year. Applications will be accepted until the position has been filled. + The Lecturer will be expected to teach one section of LAWR each semester in conjunction with the Law School's library and academic staff. + Lecturers will be expected to prepare their own lesson plans and research and writing projects, and will collaborate with the other Legal Skills Faculty. + The LAWR Program, which is part of a broader Skills Program, includes two courses that are required for first-year students. In future years, it will also include a third required course that is open only to second- and third-year students. + Lecturers will be expected to teach all three courses on a rotating basis. Lecturers are also expected to contribute to the intellectual life of the school, will have the opportunity to serve on faculty committees and vote in Faculty meetings, and will be encouraged to pursue broader teaching and scholarly activities. Minimum Qualifications: All applicants must: (1) have a J.D. degree from an ABA -approved law school (2) have at least two years of full-time experience in the practice of law in a U.S. state or territory (3) be a current or former member in good standing of the bar of a U.S. state or territory. (4) have a strong law school and/or practice record demonstrating an outstanding level of accomplishment in legal research and writing, either during law school (for example, law review or success in moot court brief-writing competitions) or after (for example, judicial clerkships or law firm or other litigation writing experience). Preferred Qualifications: The following qualifications are preferred but not mandatory: (1) at least five years of full-time experience in the practice of law in a U.S. state or territory (2) at least one academic year (or the equivalent) of prior experience teaching legal research and writing at a U.S. law school as a full-time faculty member or adjunct.
