Antiracism, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Cluster Hire: Tenure Line Special Education, Disability Studies, or Inclusive Education To affirm our values of Access, Equity, Inclusion and Diversity, the School of Education (SOE) at Loyola Marymount University is launching a cluster hire initiative in the areas of Special Education, Higher Education, and Counseling. The goal is to seek diverse faculty who will help lead institutional transformation through the building of new curricula, research foci, and community engagement. SOE seeks to build a network of scholars who are committed to conducting and applying research on racism, ethnicity, social justice, power, and structures of inequality in their diverse fields of specialization. We are particularly interested in hiring faculty who are deeply connected to and integrated within the communities they study, to build on our strong tradition of engaged and applied scholarship, and to set a path forward as we grow these areas of critical study into regional and national strengths. Qualified candidates will have a history of excellent research, teaching, and mentorship in their area of expertise. Each position requires a demonstrated commitment to practices of Antiracism, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion through evidence of scholarly and creative activity, evidence of pedagogical practice, evidence of civic engagement and/or a position statement of commitment to a critical praxis of Antiracism/DEI, and/or lived embodied experience. Applicants are invited to articulate connections to and interest in engaging in any of the programs in the school of education including educational leadership, teacher preparation, special education, bilingual education, school psychology, counseling, and higher education. Position Summary The Department of Teaching and Learning (EDTL) seeks a full-time tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor with expertise in Special Education, Disability Studies or Inclusive Education. The candidate will be expected to support all facets of the Special Education Program which includes undergraduate and Master's coursework, and both traditional and intern California Education Specialist credential. Specific areas of competency should include: inclusive PK-12 special education teacher education for traditional public, non-public, and/or charter schools, focusing on Education Specialist Mild to Moderate support needs and dual general education and special education credential teacher preparation. The Department is committed to the preparation of teachers who can teach all learners with programs located in the Los Angeles Area, San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento, and the Central Valley. Primary Responsibilities * Teach courses in the teacher credential programs. * Prepare syllabi and teaching of curriculum according to the goals and objectives of the department and program as well as CTC standards. * Assist in the preparation of candidates in an alternative certification program to meet the needs of students with disabilities with an emphasis on inclusion and intersectionality. * Provide scholarly and curriculum development leadership in the areas of Special Education, Disability Studies, or Inclusive Education * Actively participate in School and Department initiatives which promote diversity, equity, and inclusion and anti-racism. * Work closely with the Department Chair and other faculty and staff to support programs in the Department and collaborate with partners including Teach for America, The Archdiocese of Los Angeles, various charter management organizations and traditional public-school districts. Required Qualifications: * Doctorate in Education/Special Education or related field/discipline (ABD candidates will be considered but must fulfill all degree requirements by August 15, 2022). * Evidence of successful graduate level teaching experience, both face-to-face and online. * Experience working with diverse and under-resourced communities. * Experience developing curriculum for teaching diversity, equity, and inclusion, cultural competence, and/or cultural humility, and anti-racism. Preferred Qualifications * Scholarly expertise in Special Education with Mild to Moderate Support Needs, Disability Studies, or Inclusive Education * Knowledge of high leverage evidence-based methodologies and inclusive service delivery models to support the learning of students with mild to moderate support needs. * PK-12 teaching experience in Special Education within urban and multicultural PK-12 traditional public schools, non-public schools, and/or charter schools, which serve students with various abilities and language backgrounds * Knowledge and skills in preparing candidates in alternative certification programs, and designing and teaching online and hybrid undergraduate and graduate courses * Knowledge of the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) standards as well as additional state, national, and other applicable licensure and accreditation standards in the area of Special Education. * Knowledge of performance assessment (edTPA and CalTPA) Application Process To ensure full consideration, applications must be received by November 30, 2021.
