The UW has an outstanding opportunity for an Research Scientist/Engineer 2 Our lab is focused on understanding intratumoral heterogeneity in glioblastoma. We have shown in the past that cells within a tumor have dramatically different gene expression profiles. We use cutting edge techniques for single cell analysis such as single cell RNA-seq to interrogate tumor heterogeneity in primary patient samples that are harvested directly from the operating room. In parallel, we are trying to develop and characterize mouse and human culture models that recapitulate the heterogeneity seen in patient tumors in order to allow us to study how these processes affect treatment resistance and tumor evolution. These models include mouse xenografts, genetic mouse models, and human tissue culture models such as neurospheres and brain organoids.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
This is for a position as a research scientist 2 that will also function as the Ferreira Lab manager. Administrative duties include managing staff, rotating medical students, visitors and post doctoral scholoars, as well as day to day functioning of the lab. This will be coupled with directed experimental work that will focus on will be on DNA, RNA and proteomic based identification of pathways of oncogenesis. on a Experimental work includes basic and complex techniques in molecular biology such as PCR, electrophoresis, cloning, next generation sequencing library preparation, flow cytometry, and tissue culture. Work with animal models (mice) is also expected to be a part of the overall lab effort.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
· Bachelor's Degree in natural sciences (preferably biology, biochemistry, or chemistry).
· Three to five years, Knowledge of molecular biology techniques such as PCR, electrophoresis, and cloning.
· Equivalent experience be substituted for degree requirement
DESIRED EXPERIENCE
· Experience with tissue culture, flow cytometry, next generation library preparation, and animal models (mice).
