The Frederick National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. Position Overview:

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Cancer Research Technology Program (CRTP) develops and implements emerging technology, cancer biology expertise and research capabilities to accomplish NCI research objectives. The CRTP is an outward-facing, multi-disciplinary hub purposed to enable the external cancer research community and provides dedicated support to NCI's intramural Center for Cancer Research (CCR). The dedicated units provide expertise in electron microscopy, protein characterization, mass spectrometry, protein expression, optical microscopy, and genomics. These research efforts are an integral part of CCR at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research (FNLCR), where CRTP scientists work collaboratively with intramural NCI investigators to provide research technologies and expertise.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop, validate, and implement mass spectrometry (MS)-based proteomics assays to support various projects, including drug discovery and development Co-manage a proteomics research pilot with an emphasis on both targeted and global proteomics experiments Operate and maintain state-of-the-art LC-MS instrument (Thermo Altis triple quadrupole) and ensure high-quality data generation Comprehensive data analysis using variety of different methods and software, such as Skyline Develop new proteomics and data analytical methods as needed Summarize and present key results at project reviews meetings and contribute and write manuscripts for per review publications
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

This position may be filled with a Scientist I or II, commensurate with the selected candidates experience.

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
Possession of a PhD degree from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in biochemistry, analytical chemistry, or other related discipline or eight (8) years of related experience. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency Scientist I - No experience is required with a doctoral degree, plus the following knowledge and or background Scientist II - In addition to the education requirement, a minimum of 2 years of related experience, plus the following knowledge and or experience MS-based proteomic experience in mass spectrometry proteomics Solid understanding of separation chemistry for proteins/peptides analysis with an experience of nano-flow HPLC/UPLC Extensive experience in sample preparation, LC-MS operation, troubleshooting, QC, standardization for proteomics workflow Strong theoretical understanding of both global and targeted mass spectrometry proteomics and bioinformatic methods to interpret and validate findings Experience using MS software suites for proteomics workflow analysis, such as Xcalibur, free style, Skyline, etc. Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
Experience performing MRM or immuno-MRM experiments strongly preferred 2 years of related post graduate MS-based proteomic experience Experience operating Thermo Altis triple quadruple MS (nano-scale) Experience performing global proteomics experiments Familiarity with CLIA requirements
