About the role: Reporting to the Downstream Lead, the Downstream Process Development Engineer, will work with upstream process development, analytical development, and manufacturing to establish critical process parameters for cell production.
You will to work to achieve process efficiency and prevent cell loss. To do this, you will conduct experiments and interpret experimental results to help establish the process for volume reduction of mammalian cell harvest coming out of the bioreactor.

Responsibilities:
- Achieve large-scale, high-viability cell harvests for tissue production by testing the ranges of critical process parameters for downstream process equipment
- Establish robust and scalable downstream processes by performing experiments to optimize process parameters such as flow rates, cell concentrations, centrifugal speeds, cell cryobuffer formulation, and bag filling
- Produce and analyze meaningful process data by using Process Analytical Techniques (PAT) to monitor and control downstream operations
- Work with the Upstream Processing, Tissue Engineering, Technical Operations and Pilot Manufacturing teams to ensure seamless process integration
- Support technology transfer of the downstream process to manufacturing
- Communicate with vendors, contractors, and other outside parties to coordinate trainings on and installation of new equipment
- Acquire new skills and integrate new technologies
Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience concentrating cells from large volumes (many liters) of cell culture media
- Understanding of downstream processing steps and how they integrate with upstream processing
- Knowledge of Process analytical techniques (PAT)
- Hands-on operational knowledge of large-scale downstream unit operations.
- Mammalian cell culture experience at large-scale
- Experience performing process calculations for mass transfer, mixing and heat transfer
Compensation:
- $80,000-95,000 annually, depending on experience
