We seek an imaginative and entrepreneurial colleague with an international reputation among both scholars and practitioners to assume a senior role within the Terrorism, Transnational Crime and Corruption Center (TraCCC), and as a faculty member within the school, teaching in TraCCC-related areas. About the Center:
TraCCC is the first center in the United States devoted to researching and shaping the policy discussion around transnational, corruption and terrorism. The center addresses such diverse concerns as new and emerging security challenges, environmental crime and corruption, human trafficking, illicit trade, counterfeits, and antiquities smuggling. It uses advanced data analytics in much of its research. TraCCC's research is global, diverse and multidisciplinary, focusing on problems of crime and corruption stemming from post-Soviet countries, the Middle East, and China, as well as Central and South America. The center brings in over $1 million/year in external funding from private foundations, corporations, and government agencies such as NSF, DHS, USAID and the Department of State. The Schar School of Policy and Government prepares undergraduate and graduate students to be leaders and managers who solve problems and advance the public good in all sectors and levels of government-in the United States and throughout the world. Our faculty are drawn from over a dozen disciplines from the social sciences to the sciences to the humanities and the professions. The school currently offers 2 undergraduate degree programs, 8 masters degree programs, and 3 doctoral programs and a certificate in illicit trade. It also houses 13 research centers with nearly $10M in annual research expenditures. A successful applicant should have relevant experience in fundraising, obtaining grants, attracting talent, participating in interdisciplinary research collaborations, and teaching, as well as envisioning and executing a robust research agenda with significant policy impact. Required Qualifications:
Applicants must have the following:
  • An earned doctorate or other terminal degree (e.g., JD) in a relevant field including, but not limited to, public policy, international security, public administration, political science, sociology, and anthropology;
  • Research, scholarship, and public policy experience in one or more of the following areas - transnational crime, corruption, terrorism, and/or illicit trade;
  • Experience in teaching and mentoring in areas such as human trafficking, transnational crime, corruption, terrorism, and illicit trade;
  • An established and current track record of obtaining and administering grants and contracts;
  • Experience in public outreach through lectures and participation in public events.


Preferred Qualifications:
The successful applicant will also have experience in the development, administration, and/or management of large-scale research grant(s) or contract(s). This includes:
  • Reaching out to the larger community through webinars, professional/executive education (online and in-person) and collaborations with other academic institutions and NGO partners;
  • Commitment to mentoring students at the graduate level, including PhD students;
  • Building and leading a research team as part of a center or similar organization.
