California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) is an internationally-recognized leader in integral education. Job Description:

ABOUT THE DEGREE

The ITP program is an online research oriented Ph.D. that seeks to advance a transformative psychology of the whole person through quantitative, qualitative and art-based research and writing. It is designed to meet the needs and goals of working professionals, be they entrepreneurs seeking to ground themselves in scholarship, practitioners looking to deepen their knowledge in order to contribute to their field, or individuals with a desire to expand their horizons. The core curriculum offers an overview of the many whole-person approaches to psychology, blended with a strong emphasis on scholarly and research skills. Current focus areas include integral and transpersonal psychology, somatic studies, and consciousness studies and contemplative neuroscience. The program also included a designated emphasis in Somatic Psychology.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties for a full-time position include: Teach and/or supervise dissertations (18 units per year), advise new and continuing students, assess Comprehensive Exams, serve on university committees, attend faculty and student meetings, work collaboratively with faculty and program director, conduct information sessions and admissions interviews, attend CIIS-wide Open Houses, and engage in professional development.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS

In reviewing applications, the committee will place high value on:
  • Commitment to the mission and disciplines explored by the ITP department.
  • Scholarly expertise and/or proficiency in teaching in such areas as integral psychology, transpersonal psychology, transpersonal studies, cultural psychology, contemplative psychology, ecopsychology, consciousness studies, somatic psychology, neuroscience, critical thinking, scholarly writing, research design, research methods.
  • Experience in teaching courses that focus on the intersection of psychology and spirituality across cultures or other interdisciplinary perspectives on whole-person psychology and culture
  • Scholarly publications and engaged scholarship in the above areas.
  • Academic experience working with culturally diverse groups; demonstrable awareness of the importance of engaging and valuing diversity; viewing diversity as integral to all phases of education and scholarship.
  • Inspiring and effective teaching skills, including facilitation of experiential learning.
  • Ability to mentor students and direct doctoral dissertations.
  • Willingness to participate in ITP community events and to take up administrative responsibilities
  • Participation in twice a year, 5-day intensives (may be in person again in the future, currently virtual).
