Duties
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  1. Demonstrate leadership in delivering and improving patient care;
  2. Provide organized and efficient patient care, looking beyond their individual assignment to address concerns and issues occurring on the unit and within the service;
  3. Manage multiple competing priorities successfully;
  4. Demonstrate accurate and timely documentation of patient care according to the Standards for the Emergency Department;
  5. Demonstrate understanding of and compliance with patient safety guidelines, accrediting body guidelines, VHA Directives and Facility Center Memorandums that pertain to the Emergency Department and direct patient care;
  6. Utilize clinical knowledge/judgment to promote staff involvement in planning, decision making and evaluating outcomes;
  7. Serve as a preceptor for nursing students, providing feedback to the student, faculty, and nurse manager regarding students' progress;
  8. Demonstrate effective communication skills and professional behaviors that promote cooperation and teamwork with internal and external customers, team members, and supervisors.
