About This Role:

The J.R. Macdonald Laboratory seeks candidates for a research faculty position in experimental ultrafast AMO physics. The successful candidate will help manage the lab's operations and contribute to the Lab's Department of Energy-funded research. The applicant's research experience and interest should fit within JRML's research focus. A brief description of current research and publications can be found at .

The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Research Assistant Professor (non-tenure track) in the Physics Department. The candidate must present credentials to justify appointment at this level, including a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in AMO physics or a related discipline. Appointment at a higher rank might be considered in exceptional cases.

The successful candidate will have a strong desire to work in a diverse, highly collaborative, multi-investigator research environment. The responsibilities of the position include (but are not limited to): managing the 5 technical staff; maintaining the Lab's physical infrastructure by working with Facilities and outside contractors; managing purchasing, inventory, and service contracts and visits; providing a needed technical expertise in support of the Lab's research; working closely with the Director; and contributing to the Lab's research productivity. The candidate would not be expected to establish their own research group-they would, however, have the opportunity to collaborate with any or all of the groups in the Lab.

What You'll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. or equivalent in AMO physics or a related discipline

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Candidates should have significant technical expertise in one or more of the following areas:
    • Operation of ultrafast lasers ( e.g., Ti:Sa, OPCPA)
    • Femtosecond pump-probe experiments
    • High-harmonics generation
    • Charged particle detection and imaging ( e.g. , MCPs, delay-line anodes, COLTRIMS, VMI, photoelectron spectroscopy)
    • Timing electronics and data acquisition for high-repetition rate experiments, including modern computer systems and languages
