Description

The West Virginia University Research Corporation is seeking applications for a Neural Engineering Post-Doctoral Research Scientist in the Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute (RNI). This position will work with the Neuro Device Research Program on numerous research projects focused on neural engineering and applications for human testing. Additionally to interface and integration with basic science collaborators around the world. An example of an existing need in the lab is for developing an epilepsy animal model that can be used to test drug and biologic delivery in conjunction with focal blood brain barrier disruption using focused ultrasound. This position will work directly with the executive director of Clinical Translational Neuroscience.

In order to be successful in the position, the ideal candidate will:
  • Work independently and/or with a research team to carry out neuro engineering research projects focused on clinical translational neuroscience applications for basic and applied projects. Duties include the design and implementation of research projects as well as data analysis and reporting/publishing of the projects. Utilize tools such as brain imaging, functional electrical stimulation, and focused ultrasound.


Qualifications
  • PhD or MD in Neuroscience, Neurobiology, Biomedical Engineering, or similar science/engineering-related field or expected within three (3) months of hire.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience involving:
    • Functional electrical stimulation.
    • Focused ultrasound technology.
    • Biological imaging.
    • Animal surgery procedures.
    • Conducting applied human research projects.
    • Publishing and presenting scientific reports.
  • Experience working on and submitting federal awards (NIH, NSF, DOD).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Ability to create, annotate and maintain detailed research records.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a computer utilizing various software packages, including creating spreadsheets, charts, graphs, etc.
  • Working knowledge of scientific research methods and Institutional Review Board policies and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of institutional animal care and use committee policies and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively prepare and present information in one-on-one settings in addition to general scientific audiences, customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to conduct data analytics and preparation of reports and/or publications.
  • Provide stewardship (mentoring) to a multidisciplinary team of researchers.
