Job Description:
This position is for a Lab Manager in the Department of Neuroscience at The University of Texas at Austin and involves both administrative and research responsibilities.


Job Details:

Responsibilities
  • Oversee administration of research activities including: (a) compliance of research with IACUC and IBC; (b) maintain inventories of mouse colonies using mLims software, laboratory reagents (antibodies, DNA plasmids, viral and cell stocks); (c) onboarding of lab personnel; (d) ordering and receiving laboratory supplies, reagents, equipment; (e) serve as point person for interactions with sales representatives and field engineers.
  • Supervise undergraduate assistants and other technical support personnel in performing routine lab maintenance and participation in research projects; delegate a team of undergraduate assistants to assist in weaning, genotyping, and other mouse colony maintenance duties.
  • Perform experiments involving molecular cloning (plasmid design, generation, and sequencing), tissue dissections, various imaging techniques.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, neuroscience, or related field.
  • Extensive experience with molecular biology and mouse handling and husbandry.
  • Eight or more years of laboratory experience working in bench research in academia.
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work as a team player in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Supervisory or mentoring experience.
  • Co-authored publications in biology, chemistry, neuroscience, or related field.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters degree in biology, chemistry, neuroscience, or related field.
  • Experience with technology transfer issues.

Salary Range

$65,000 + depending on qualifications
