Job Overview:

A Global Scientific Director in Genomics will be hired to support growth in development and globalization of genomics assays. Regional genomic scientist leads will report into this position. This role will be important for strategic planning, staffing, on-time delivery of validations, and ensuring operational readiness for new platforms. Duties will include the following:
  • Provides scientific leadership to the laboratories and their technical staff.
  • Mentors and provides consultation to scientific and operational staff on technical issues related to the scientific area of expertise in Genomics.
  • Provides technical training for scientific and operational staff.
  • Provides development opportunities for scientific and operational staff.
  • Assists operational leaders with converting scientific theory into laboratory operational practices/capabilities.
  • Responsible for the effective scientific performance of assays through regular monitoring and evaluation of the assays.
  • Collaborates with operational leaders to evaluate and assesses new technologies and new assay capabilities.
  • Assists in marketing new capabilities.
  • Provides technical/scientific consultation to departments outside the lab (i.e., Project Management) to assist with client issues and problem solving.
  • Consults with external clients on planned and ongoing studies, providing scientific input, where appropriate, in order to develop and maintain good relationships with the clients.
  • Effectively manages scientific vendor relationships to troubleshoot issues and improve capabilities.
  • Prepares and delivers presentations to internal and external clients and professional groups.
  • Attends meetings, conferences, symposia, and seminars to promote CLS's capabilities within dedicated scientific area.
Education/Qualifications:

Required:

Ph.D. in scientific area of expertise with 12 years or more of experience in the scientific area of expertise in Genomics field used in clinical studies.

Preferred:

Board certification in scientific area of expertise.

Experience:

Required:
  • 12 years of experience within scientific area of expertise. Additional relevant experience may be substituted for education requirements above.
  • Highly skilled in conducting research, data interpretation, and writing reports.
  • Proven track record of analytical method development and analytical validation.
  • Development and implementation of technical processes to improve the quality, efficiency and/or productivity of global Laboratory Science.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop of new technology or enhance existing technology to maximize scientific/operational capabilities.
  • Skilled in performing scientific presentations and preparing scientific publications.
  • Knowledge of clinical laboratory automation, system software, Microsoft applications, and laboratory statistics.
  • Effective communication skills with technical staff, business development staff, peers and clients.
  • Attention to detail and interpretation of scientific data.
  • Demonstrated problem prevention, detection and resolution.
