ROLE SUMMARY
This position is a laboratory based position within the Vaccine Research and Development - Formulation Development group. The individual will design, develop, and execute studies to support the development of stable, robust formulations for new vaccine antigen candidates including bacterial, and viral vaccines. The individual will define suitable processes and steps for manufacturing scalable formulations.

Research and Development
This position is a laboratory based position within the Vaccine Research and Development - Formulation Development group. The individual will design, develop, and execute studies to support the development of stable, robust formulations for new vaccine antigen candidates including bacterial, and viral vaccines. The individual will define suitable processes and steps for manufacturing scalable formulations.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- The individual will develop and communicate an executable formulation development plan, which incorporates knowledge about the antigen (s), material availability and program timelines.
- Design and execute targeted DS and DP formulation studies to support formulation development of vaccine antigen candidates within Vaccine Research and Development (VRD). Vet plans with management and work with the appropriate lines to secure the needed analytical characterization support.
- May represent the Formulation Development group on cross -departmental program teams.
- Design and prepare DP formulations for early research animal studies based on an in-vivo dosing plan that is provided.
- As required, design lyophilization cycles and execute studies to develop stable lyo dosage form vaccine formulations.
- As required, perform relevant biophysical and particle characterization of the prepared formulations, using techniques such as micro-flow imaging (MFI), dynamic light scattering (DLS), and zeta potentials.
- Analyze data coming from multiple sources and propose formulation study conclusions that drive decisions to be made. The individual will communicate the collective findings and propose follow on actions, in a clear and concise manner, as required.
- The individual is expected to execute assignments with limited direct supervision and have the ability to prioritize the program deliverables against other activities. The individual should be able to coordinates activities with others both inside and outside their immediate group and should be aware of all related timelines or due dates.
- Stay current with the scientific literature. Leverage existing knowledge appropriately, being mindful of potential patents.
QUALIFICATIONS
- PhD with 0-3 years' experience in Pharmaceutics, Biochemistry, Life Sciences or related science
- Experience in pharmaceutical development and sterile drug product manufacturing is preferable
- Relevant experience in protein, conjugate, or biologics formulation development is essential
- Experience in process development, process scale up, lyophilization is desirable
- Experience using biophysical formulation characterization techniques such as DSC, DLS, KF, and particle sizing techniques is a plus
- Must have good technical, organizational, and communication skills
- Have an ability to troubleshoot issues and interpret data in the context of project needs
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- The individual should be able to perform the duties of the job which may include pipetting, sitting, and standing
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations and ability to perform data analysis
