Site Name: USA - Pennsylvania - Upper Providence Posted Date: Jan 13 2022 An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated molecular biologist with a passion for protein technology, to join the department of Protein, Cellular, and Structural Sciences (PCSS) at GSK's facility in Upper Providence, Pennsylvania. The primary responsibility of the department is to design, generate and validate biological reagents for discovery activities across all of GSK's therapeutic modalities. The department also provides the structural and mechanistic understanding of drug target, molecular recognition and mode of action to deliver the best molecule. In this role, the scientist will have the opportunity to work on targets supporting multiple therapeutic areas including Oncology, Immunology, Infectious Disease, Neurology and Inflammation. The successful candidate will be responsible for downstream characterization and registration of genome-edited cell reagents for use in GSK's drug discovery platforms. Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Run cell characterization for cell reagent QC using molecular biology skills (PCR, sequencing, Western and Seq editing software) Maintain, QC and register a variety of cell lines Troubleshoot technical issues, keep updated with latest technologies and improve experimental procedure accordingly Work comfortably with a fast-paced and productivity-oriented laboratory environment Work in a matrix team environment to enable optimal delivery of project and department objectives to the highest possible scientific standard Independently execute laboratory experiments and/or advanced data analysis, integration and interpretation with an emphasis on providing appropriate context for data and experiments in the progress of programs and/or platforms Ensure compliance with all GSK R&D data integrity practices, ethics codes, standards and training, and safety training and practice Why you? Basic Qualifications: A Bachelor OR Master's degree in a life sciences discipline (e.g. molecular biology, cell biology, oncology) with at least 2+ years of relevant laboratory experience. Preferred Qualifications: Qualified candidates should have strong track-record in either one or more of the following disciplines: Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Genetics If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus: Experience with cell culture including cell lines, primary cells, co-culture models and iPSC Experience in CRISPR editing or other genome editing technologies Sequencing (Sanger and NGS), genotyping, primer/probe design, qRT-PCR, ddPCR and Snapgene/Benchling (or equivalent software) Data analysis experience, e.g. Excel or Spotfire. Ability to plan and execute multiple tasks concurrently and evaluate multiple scientific strategies in parallel where appropriate Experience demonstrating strengths in high performance behaviours, such as building relationships, flexible thinking, and enabling/driving change.
