Our mission is to study and protect archeological sites in Arkansas, to preserve and manage information and collections from those sites, and to communicate what we learn to the people of Arkansas. Cooperative agreements with seven state university campuses, two state parks, and the UA System's Winthrop Rockefeller Institute enable scholars at ten research stations around the state to carry out this mission. The Survey has been a model for statewide archeological programs in the United States and around the world. Department: Archeological Survey Department's Website: Summary of Job Duties: Duties the Archaeological Assistant include: fieldwork (some requiring in-state travel), collections processing and data analysis, record keeping, supervising volunteers in the laboratory and the field, and interaction with visitors and callers to the Station, all under the direction of the Research Station Archeologist. Position is located in Arkadelphia, AR. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: * A Bachelor's degree in anthropology or a related field from an accredited institution of higher education * Archeological field experience in North America, east of the Rocky Mountains * Archeological lab experience * Experience in working with archeological records and collections Applicable equivalencies may be considered. Preferred Qualifications: * M.A. in Anthropology/Archeology from an accredited institution of higher education * Experience with the use of total station for mapping, and proficiency in using ArcGIS software * Experience with the archeology of Southeastern North America * Experience working with and writing for the public Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: * Knowledge of the general practice of North American archeology * Knowledge of computers * Skill in basic archeological field and lab procedures * Ability to work with other staff, avocational archeologists, and the general public * Ability to work independently and meet internal deadlines Salary Information: $30,000 Required Documents to Apply: Cover Letter/Letter of Application, List of three Professional References (name, email, business title), Resume Optional Documents: Proof of Veteran Status Additional Information: Recruitment Contact Information: Mel Zabecki, State Archeologist, All application materials must be uploaded to the University of Arkansas System Career Site Please do not send to listed recruitment contact.
