Job DescriptionSalary:

Caribou Biosciences is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company founded in 2011 by pioneers in CRISPR genome editing and headquartered in Berkeley, California. The company's mission is to develop innovative, transformative therapies for patients with devastating diseases through novel genome editing. Caribou leverages its proprietary technologies to develop a wholly owned pipeline of genome-edited, off-the-shelf immune cell therapies, including CAR-Ts and CAR-NKs, for the treatment of multiple different types of cancer. Caribou believes that advanced genome editing is necessary to develop sophisticated cell therapies to treat a variety of malignancies.

Members of the Caribou herd open their minds to new ideas and welcome diverse perspectives. We proudly assert that teams do their best work when their members are personally engaged, their ideas are taken seriously, their contributions are recognized, and their needs are met.

We are seeking a Research Associate/Senior Research Associate to join our Stem Cell Therapeutics Group in Berkeley. As part of a highly collaborative, supportive, and friendly team, you will interact closely with Scientists and other Research Associates to drive discovery and development of Caribou's first iPSC derived NK cell therapy product. You will use your cell biology experience to assist in the scale up of iPSC differentiation experiments to larger culture volumes, to generate sufficient quantities of cell product for in vivo evaluation. This is a wonderful opportunity to be involved with the development of next-generation therapies and advance them into the clinic while growing with a team who are generous with their time, always willing to give advice to help with challenging experiments, and who are there to celebrate your wins.

Responsibilities:
  • Mammalian cell culture, including iPSCs and primary immune cells
  • Differentiation of iPSCs into hematopoietic lineages
  • Functional analysis and phenotypic characterization of differentiated cell types
  • Gene editing of iPSCs and clonal derivation of edited lines
  • Coordinate experiments with other Scientists and RAs across functional groups, compile data and present results and stay current on relevant primary literature

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree, Master's degree or equivalent experience in (Stem) Cell biology, Immunology, Biochemistry.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in research operations, preferably in pharma or biotech
  • Broad expertise in mammalian cell culture techniques, cell-based assays and a working knowledge of cell biology/immunology
  • Competency in flow cytometry / fluorescence activated cell sorting
  • Proficiency in basic molecular biology techniques
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to work independently, as well as to collaborate with peers and work effectively in a fast-paced team-oriented environment
  • Strong organizational, time management, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness and ability to share occasional weekend cell culture duties

Nice-to-have (but not required):
  • Background in immunology, in particular NK cell development and function
  • Experience working with iPSCs / iPSC hematopoietic differentiation
  • Experience with immune cell functional assays
  • Application of genome editing technologies
  • Experience with lab automation
  • Experience with scale up optimization and process development

Caribou compensation and benefits include:

  • Comprehensive compensation package including stock options and employee stock purchase program
  • Generous paid vacation time in addition to Company-observed holidays and floating holidays
  • Excellent medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan including matching employer contributions
