The Art Department at Old Dominion University seeks an Assistant Professor of Painting & Drawing/Foundations. This is a full time, tenure track position with a starting date of July 2022. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position is a ten-month contract with a teaching load of five courses per year. In addition to teaching painting/drawing and foundations classes, responsibilities also include standard service duties such as facilities and resource management, program development, student advising, and participation on department, college, and university committees. The Art Department supports the development of global perspectives on art and visual culture. We actively promote artistic, curatorial, scholarly, and institutional practices that deepen appreciation of political and cultural heterogeneity as educational and professional values. To that end, the department recognizes and promotes the development and implementation of curricular innovation, new research methods, curatorial and pedagogical strategies, and hiring practices that contribute to the realization of these goals. We welcome candidates whose lived experience, creative practice, and/or teaching centers on historically underrepresented communities or marginalized practices (race, gender, first-generation to college, social justice, etc.) in a way that would enhance learning experiences for our diverse student population.
